How to fix the forward on a John Deere 400 Backhoe?
I am quite oblivious to backhoes and so is my father, and he asked me to google to help backhoe deere john find answers to his problem..... He has a John Deere 400 Backhoe that was built in the late 70s or early 80s. It is a four cycle and takes diesel (if that made sense..?). The forward does NOT work, but the reverse does. Is there a way to fix the tractor so that the forward works?

My 2.5-year-old loves all these John Deere books. They’re not terribly literary — they don’t rhyme or use meter and they’re not exactly deep — but they are solid entertainment for small children who love construction and farming vehicles. The characters are cute and the content is appropriate for preschoolers. This one tells a story of how a friendly backhoe does a series of good deeds that come back to haunt him — in a good way! He’s a regular mitzvah machine.
This book isn’t going to win any awards, but it is going to provide a lot of children with some good clean fun.
I got this book for my son who is not quite three and he really likes it. He wants to read it every night at bedtime. What surprised me is that my 5 year old daughter enjoys it so much too. It’s an upbeat story with Barney Backhoe saving the day (even though he doesn’t know it at the time) There’s a lot of “Oh no!” and then “I can help” throughout the story. It’s just a great book for kids interested in construction vehicles or even just problem solving. (It also reminds me of Bob the Builder and I think that’s why my kids like it so much.)
My son is heavy equipment crazy. He got this toy last Christmas when he was almost four. It was an instant favorite, and he took it everywhere. It is more durable than other backhoe toys he has, but it still had some problems. He USED it though, it wasn’t just sitting around looking pretty. The bucket had to be re-attached on one side after a pin broke, and the backhoe arm would sometimes slip out if he put it at the wrong angle. All in all, it’s stood up fairly well to rough play.
My son is obsessed with tractors and construction trucks so I got him this for his birthday. He sometimes takes this toy to bed, and has had hours of play both outside in the sand and inside with a large cookie sheet filled with pebbles. He loves to make the backhoe and front loader buckets work and the stabilizer legs are a definite plus. It is much more durable than the less expensive plastic vehicles you can pick up the same size. The toy is still as good as new, versus some of his others that have lost several parts because they just snap off. For me this toy was worth the money.
